It’s almost time for Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon! I am quickly preparing myself for this challenge, but I will already write something for the opening survey. In that way I can quickly start reading at 2 PM my time.
1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
I am living in the Netherlands and I am doing this readathon in my own home in Utrecht! I hope to make my house nice and cosy for the whole day.
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
I will start with We Hunt The Flame by Hafsah Faizal and I am looking forward to it. Interested in what it will bring me.
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
Well, I am going to have pasta for dinner from my favorite pasta place, so I am very excited for that.
4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
I am Rianne Warmerdam. I live in the Netherlands as I already said before. I work in consultancy, but I also long to become a writer. I have a long road to go for that, but I am willing to take the steps.
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?
Ermm. I especially try to not set a very difficult goal for myself. My goal is to read 2 whole books of which one is a graphic novel and then also finish another book I already started. I don’t want to get too disappointed by not reaching my goal.

And we’re already more than two hours into the readathon! I wanted to give you a small update before I grab another cup of coffee and will continue reading. We Hunt The Flame is a very interesting book. I like the setting a lot, even though the places and people are still a bit confusing to me. English isn’t my first language and the culture behind this book isn’t my own, so I have a little trouble understanding everything, but I am learning a lot about the culture. Also, the book is bound to get very exciting, so I really want to know how it goes.
I am reading a bit slower than I wanted. Probably because I take a lot time to do a bit more on housework and getting food and drinks and stuff. I hope I will be captivated by the book a bit more so I can read without any interruptions. I want to read with the idea that I can’t stop. I love that feeling. Well, I will go and get my coffee and read some more. I will be back later!
9:00
Wow, we’re already nine hours into the readathon. The time is going so fast and I am reading so slow. I have read for only almost 5 hours, even though I wanted to read more. I noticed it has become so difficult to keep focused on my reading lately. As if my brain isn’t used to being focused for so long anymore.
But I am enjoying We Hunt The Flame a lot. I like the cultural parts and the fantasy that is in the book. I have a few ideas about how it will end, but I am not too sure about any of them, so we will see. At least I will keep on reading and in the end I will find out, right?
My pasta was amazing by the way. I will leave a picture below of the packaging. I will probably have some spring rolls later together with some wine. But not too much wine of course, because that will only make me more tired of course. I will go read again and I will speak to you later.
11:08
We’re almost halfway the readathon and I want to go to sleep. The last few hours we’re even better than earlier. I was much more focused on the story! I am devouring this story, but that should wait for tomorrow, because I am exhausted. I will go to bed and see you again tomorrow.
19:03
Good morning! For me at least. It’s 9 AM here in the Netherlands. I had my alarm set for half past 7, but I fell asleep again. Not what I wanted, but apparently I needed to sleep more.
I woke up about 45 minutes later, so I did start reading for the day. We Hunt The Flame is getting more exciting, so I really want to find out how it ends. I will stay in bed until I finished this book I guess. Or until the boyfriend awakes and makes breakfast….
25:16
And the readathon is over! I finished We Hunt The Flame at like half past 11 in the morning and I immediately started reading the graphic novel I wanted to read: Cheshire Crossing by Andy Weir and Sarah Andersen. Sadly I didn’t finish that one, because me and my boyfriend needed to run an errand just one hour before the readathon ended. I finished the book after we we’re back, but it was not in the ‘official’ time of the readathon.
Next time I really want to make sure that I don’t have to do any housework in the middle of the readathon. And maybe plan the errands for AFTER the readathon, instead of during the readathon, haha. Well, the readathon was cool and I will see you next time!
