9:07 AM (7:07 into the readathon)
It is 9 o’clock here in the Netherlands. I have just woken up and I am sitting on my couch with a nice breakfast. A few days ago I kind of a little bit decided to participate in the readathon of today. Not with a lot of committment. Therefore, I am not really prepared, but I am excited to read for the whole day, so I guess that is what I will be doing.
Before I start reading, I will tell something about myself through the opening survey.
1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
I am from the Netherlands. In the beginning of this year me and my boyfriend bought our own house in a place a bit south of Utrecht. It is really amazing to have my own place that’s bigger than our previous house. This will be perfect for reading.
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
I think I am most looking forward to The Tower of Nero by Rick Riordan. This is the last book of the Trials of Apollo series and I am very excited to read this last one. Reading a book by Rick Riordan always feels a bit like coming home and finding comfort and friends. I am also starting with this book.
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
Because I wasn’t really sure if I would participate in this readathon I have not anything in particular brought home. At this moment I look most forward to that first cup of coffee I will get after I finished this part of the blog.
4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
Ermmm, okay, the big question. Well, I am Rianne. I am 27 years old and live in the Netherlands. I love reading (duhh) and writing. Also I do a bit of gaming. Lord of the Rings Online, Animal Crossing, Pokémon, Stardew Valley.
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today?
Well, I didn’t really prepare for today, so that is different. I will just take it easy and try to enjoy the books I’m reading. Also, this blog will be a bit more easy than before, I guess.
That was the opening survey! Now it is time to get that cup of coffee and start reading!
3:46 PM (13:47 into the readathon)
We’re already over halfway of this readathon. I am still reading my first book, The Tower of Nero, but I am really enjoying myself. Also, I had coffee (2) and lunch. Also eating some Maltesers (20) and I drank water. Good, right? Because we’re over halfway it is also time to fill in the mid-server for this reverse readathon. Let’s go.
What are you reading right now?
As I said just before, I am still reading The Tower of Nero by Rick Riordan. I enjoy it very much. It is really exciting and I love where this seems to be going.
How many books have you read so far?
Yeah, so half a book. But I will read more, not sure how many books though.
What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the readathon?
Dinner! I had the amazing idea to order some Pasta Carbonara for dinner, so I am looking forward to dead. Also finishing this book will be great and deciding which one I will read next.
Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those?
Hmmm, yes. A lot of distractions. My boyfriend got up and left during the morning, so he was having breakfast, watching tv and boring me with Hearthstone information. Also I seem to be very tired, so I want to have all the naps. I didn’t have one, but the tiredness makes it easy to be distracted. I dealt with that by having more coffee. The boyfriend is gone for most of the day, so that is taken care off as well, hahaha.
What surprises you most about the readathon, so far?
Honestly? My tiredness. I didn’t expect to be so tired. I just wanted to read, but sometimes it’s just difficult to keep going when you actually want to close your eyes. Ah well, we’ll see about the rest of the day.
9:01 PM (19:01 into the readathon)
And I finished the first book of the day! I only had about half an hour of reading to go when I had dinner and I finished the last streak after dinner. After that I have also started in my next book, A Lesson In Vengeance by Victoria Lee. I have read about fifty pages of the book and I am already sucked in. This book seems to be exactly what I need at this moment. It feels a lot like Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson, in a big and amazing school with campus with a lot of mysteries, but then with witches attached to them. It sounds amazing and I can’t wait to read further.
Also, I have done a little shower. Now I will curl up on the couch with my blanket and a nice cup of tea. See you in a few hours!
11:38 PM (21:38 into the readathon)
And there I am! A few hours later. I have not finished the book yet, but I decided it is time to stop and go to bed. I wouldn’t have finished the book within the readathon anyway, and then it is probably better to just get some rest and go to bed.
I am enjoying the book A Lesson in Vengeance very much. It is a bit different than expected, but I enjoy the spooky atmosphere and the witchy vibes. Sometimes it is a bit confusing but it isn’t too much. I will enjoy reading this book later, when it is not late in the evening and when I won’t dream about it later. I don’t want any ghosts in my bedroom.
To finish this blog nicely off, I thought I would do the closing survey a bit early. Then at least I can go to bed with a clean slate and I don’t have to think about it tomorrow (or next week, which usually happens with me, oops). So, here are my answers!
How would you assess your reading overall?
As always I read a lot slower than I expected. This is mostly because of the distractions that come around anyway. When I was young I would easily read for hours on end, but in this adult life things come up anyway. I think I need to get used to it. I read 1,5 books. That’s alright. I didn’t expect to get a lot done anyway with the amount of preparation I did and at what time I got out of bed.
Did you have a stategy, and if so, did you stick to it?
Well, I wanted to start with a book I knew I would love, and that worked. After I finished the relative easy book I at least had the satisfaction of finishing something. It was a bit sad that I had lost so much time, because otherwise I might also have finished the other book, so I might want to do that better next time. I just don’t know how to do that. 🙂
What was your favorite snack?
The instant noodles for lunch were a treat. Really craved for that all morning, so I was amazing to finally have a bowl of the noodle soup and start gobbling it up. Very nice.
And that was the reverse readathon of this year. I always hope to be more active on social media, but I never do. I am mostly on my blog, which I like, though mostly for myself I guess. It was fun and I will look forward to any other readathons I can participate in. I hope you had fun with your readathon if you participated. What book have you read/will you read this weekend? Let me know!
